Bad Moms is opening at Fine Arts Theater Place this Thursday, August 26th, starring Kristen Bell, Katherine Hahn, Mila Kunis, Christina Applegate, and Annie Mumolo. This hilarious film puts motherhood in perspective! What better way to deal with the stress and societal expectations of motherhood than to laugh it out with your friends? Rated A by Cinema Score.com, the movie has already pulled in 85 billion dollars.
In honor of Bad Moms, we are posting five of our favorite terrible moms of the small and big screen. If you’re feelin’ like a bad mom, you’ll feel better after you read about these ladies:
- Gillian Darmody, Boardwalk Empire
Gillian, who is played by gorgeous actress Gretchen Mol, has just a few tiny flaws as a mom: She’s a hooker, she runs a brothel, and she has parenting (she was a mom at what, 14?) as well as drug issues. Her poor son Jimmy is equally as demented. And their relationship is just….weird (you figure it out!)
2. Nancy Botwin, “Weeds”
Poor Nancy. Her husband is gone and she has to feed her kids. What could she do? Nancy Botwin (played by Mary-Louise Parker) figured out a solution: selling pot. And then when the kids were “old enough”, she brought them into the business.
3. Cersei Lannister, “Game of Thrones”
It is difficult to think of any mom who had a more horrible child than Cersei (Lena Headey) in “Game of Thrones.” Her son Joffrey was very much like her: cruel, manipulative, self-absorbed and just plain awful.
But how could Cersei be expected to teach her son any moral basics when Joffrey is secretly Cersei’s brother Jaime’s son? (yes, he is the result of the union between Cersei and her brother). This one is hard to top. Although….we have number four….
- Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford in “Mommy Dearest”.
Although it’s argued how exaggerated this cult biopic is, Fay Dunaway’s portrayal of Joan Crawford’s relationship to her daughter Christina Crawford (this film was based on a book by Christina herself) is just horrific. “No more wire hangers!”
5. Kris Jenner, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”
This mother feels like the real-life version of the fictional character Edina Monsoon in the epic British television show “Absolutely Fabulous.” In “AbFab,” Edina’s oft repeated motto was “It’s about me, darling! Me, me, me!” Now check any Kardashian show featuring Kris and you’ll see the striking resemblance.
So don’t feel bad about anything, moms. Get your girlfriends together, have a glass of wine, get a mani-pedi, then come on down with your pals and see Bad Moms at Fine Arts Theatre Place and make a night of it! You’ll feel all your parenting guilt melt away.
